Double Hung
Double hung windows feature operable upper and lower sashes. They offer tilt-in functionality for easy cleaning. These are the most common windows in most homes and represent classic American style architecture.
Casement
Casement windows are hinged either left or right and crank open to 90 degrees. They allow plenty of natural light and offer excellent ventilation. They are commonly found over kitchen sinks and in sunrooms.
Slider or Glider
A sliding or gliding window opens horizontally. Typically they have two sashes, either both functioning or one fixed and one functional. These windows are commonly found in condominiums, contemporary homes, basements and porches.
Hopper
Hopper windows are held closed by a latches at the top and they have hinges at the sides. To open they are pulled down and in from the top. Hoppers are most commonly found in basements.
Awning
Awning windows are hinged at the top and open out with a crank on the bottom. These windows are common found in bedrooms and basements. They are also frequently used on top of large fixed units for ventilation.
Picture
Picture windows are fixed units. They offer unobstructed views of the outdoors and are often used in combination with other windows.
Bay
Bay windows create a bright open comfortable space. A bay unit is comprised of three windows. The left and right side windows are usually either double hungs or casements. Bay units are commonly found in living rooms, dining rooms and kitchens.
Bow
Bow windows are made up of three, four or five windows in one angled frame. The windows in the middle are sometimes fixed and the side windows are usually operable casements. Bow units are most common in living rooms and family rooms.
Specialty
Specialty or designer windows can be used in countless combinations. Here are some of the common types; half round, trapezoid, elliptical, arch, palladium, octagon, triangle, transom, garden, storm, acoustic and impact.
